The Barcelona-Sitges Rally begins with the traditional exhibition at LÂ’illa Diagonal
The L’illa Diagonal shopping center welcomes a show with six emblematic vehicles from the caravan of vintage cars that will be driving across the Garraf Coast.
Once again, this exhibition of historic vehicles at L’illa Diagonal is the prelude to the Barcelona-Sitges International Vintage Car Rally. From Monday February 20th to Saturday March 4th, shopping center visitors will have a chance to admire six models that are an advance of what can be seen when the actual event is held.
On this occasion, the Hispano-Suiza brand will have a prominent position at the show, which will feature a 15/45 “Alfonso XIII” from 1913 (valued at 550,000 euros), a T30 from 1917 and a T48 from 1930. Next to them will be a Donnet Zedel model G from 1924, a Locomobile 48 Sportif from 1918 and a Rolls-Royce Wraith from 1938. In addition, a very special guest will be added on February 28th: the Graham Paige from 1928 that the Zapp family has been travelling in all over the world since the year 2000.
On the 4th, all cars entered in the Rally will be on display at Diagonal Avenue, on the sidewalk in front on the shopping center, starting at 10:00 and until 17:00, and on Sunday the 5th they will be departing to participate in the Rally at 10:30 from Sant Jaume Square in Barcelona.
Over fifty vehicles
Fifty cars and a dozen motorcycles have confirmed their participation in the 2017 Rally. The oldest car in the whole caravan will be a Darracq from 1900, while Ford, once again this year, will be the brand with the highest representation, featuring 11 cares ranging from model A to model T (the company with the oval boasts the record of official participation with 515 entries), plus a 1929 Ford A Doble Phaeton.
In addition to the Zapp family’s extraordinary Graham Paige, another model previously unseen in the Rally is a 1928 Erskine.

A prestigious poster
The poster for the 59th Barcelona-Sitges International Vintage Car Rally was designed by prestigious Danish illustrator Mads Berg, who depicts a Delaunay Belleville, in the foreground, like the one driven by Catalan art nouveau Modernista painter Ramón Casas. In the background, the illustration shows different traditional features of the race, like two of the most important icons from the cities that gives it its name and the circuit that unites them. The drawing also accentuates the contrast between the sea and the mountains defined by the stretch along the Garraf Coast.
Berg has managed to capture the essence of the Rally and applied his characteristic style, where he elegantly combines the most contemporary aesthetics with 20th century advertising posters.
