The International Patchwork Festival Kicks Off

The benchmark international Patchwork Festival arrives in Sitges this Thursday.
The Festival occupies 2,100 m2 at the Trade Fair Center and other new exhibition venues.

The Sitges International Patchwork Festival is celebrating its thirteenth anniversary this year.  From Thursday to Sunday, over 100 exhibitors will be displaying the latest sector tendencies at the trade fair center installed on the Passeig de la Ribera seafront promenade. You can also visit new venues exhibiting true works of art from the top benchmark companies in this artistic discipline from around the world. The Festival also includes patchwork courses and children’s workshops, among other proposals.

The Trade Fair has a surface area of over 2,100 m2 spread out among three marquees. Among the exhibits, you can see works by renowned artists like Hungarian Anna Dolanyi, Katie Pasquini or Jiny Beyer.

The councilwoman for Economic Promotion, Tourism and Beaches, Aurora Carbonell, pointed out that “it’s an international benchmark event in the textile art sector that attracts thousands of people and generates an important economic return”.

During these days, is it estimated that Sitges could receive more than 20,000 people daily. The hotels that are closest to the Passeig de la Ribera promenade, where the trade show is taking place, are the ones with the highest occupancy, almost 90%, and the rest of the hotel establishments are practically at 80% occupancy. The visitors arriving in Sitges during the International Patchwork Festival come in groups of 4.1 people on the average. It is also estimated that tourists spend an average of three nights in town and seven out of every ten stay at hotels. According to the latest study carried out by the Barcelona Diputació City Council, it is estimated that the Festival generates an economic impact of 2.5 million euros.

On Friday 10th, the Mayor of Sitges, Miquel Forns, and the Councilwoman for Economic Promotion, Tourism and Beaches, Aurora Carbonell, will pay an institutional visit, at 09:45 at the Miramar Building. Also on Friday, at 20:30, the award giving ceremony for all of the winning pieces in each category will be held in the Gold Room of the Maricel Palace.
