Classical music returns to Rac√≥ de la Calma
This year, Sitgestiu Cultural 2017 – Museums of Sitges’ cultural lineup for the summer months– is presenting different new features, two of the most important being nighttime tours of the museums and the creation of a classical music series at Racó de la Calma (The Quiet Corner). The Racó de la Calma Classical Music Series presents six concerts from July 13th to August 31st, with performers of different origins and styles.

Viviana Salisi, piano
Paula Sánchez-Valverde, soprano, winner of 1st prize in the singing category at the Mirabent i Magrans Competition, accompanied by renowned pianist Viviana Salisi, have prepared a varied repertoire for us where we can sit back and listen to a first part of consisting of songs and a second of Opera arias. We will hear pieces by composers like Donizetti, Händel, Rossini or Gounod.

Irma Bau, violoncello
Irina Veselova, piano
The duo that won 1st prize in the chamber music category at the Mirabent i Magrans Competition, consisting of Catalan violoncellist Irma Bau and Russian pianist Irina Veselova. Their proposed concert program includes two essential pieces with, at the same time, contrasting styles, from the chamber music repertoire. A sonata by César Franck and another one by Sergei Rakhmàninov.

Paulina Dumanaite, piano
Winners of 3rd prize in the chamber music category at the Mirabent i Magrans Competition, this duo consisting of virtuoso violinist Christian Torres and the magnificent Lithuanian pianist Paulina Dumanaite will present a concert based on two great geniuses of classical music. The program includes a classical sonata by Beethoven and another more romantic one by Brahms.

This saxophone quartet, winners of 2nd prize in the chamber music category at the Mirabent i Magrans Competition, has selected a repertoire of contemporary composers for this concert, where they demonstrate the full musical capacity of this chamber music group. We will be able to hear compositions by authors like Ligeti, Bozza, and Geiss, among others.

Oleguer Aymamí, violoncello
French soprano Hélène Walter, winner of 2nd prize in the singing category at the Mirabent i Magrans Competition, offers us an interesting repertoire of mainly French composers. Her delicate voice will be accompanied by the excellent pianist Anna Crexells and the brilliant violoncellist Oleguer Aymamí.

This concert, which will have a special and very original format, will be an intimate listening session; in other words, a commented concert, with dialogue between the musicians and with the participation of the audience, who will be able to ask questions and make comments. The participating musicians will be soprano Serena Sáenz and pianist Anna Crexells. The presentation will be done by musicologist and Catalunya Música announcer Xavier Chavarría.
