700 professionals from event organizing agencies and tourism companies from all over the world are meeting in Sitges from 21 to 25 October to participate in the Meeting and Incentive Forum.
Buyers and suppliers from the business tourism sector will be getting together starting this Tuesday and until Saturday for a new meeting of the M&I (Meeting and Incentive Forum), one of the business tourism sector’s most prestigious professional encounters sector. A total of 400 meeting organizers will be participating, from the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Benelux, Scandinavian countries and other European countries, Russia and the Confederation of Independent States, the United States, Argentina, Brazil and Mexico, plus 300 suppliers from different parts of the world.
Sitges has managed to have this forum organized here after beating out Budapest’s candidacy. This meeting is generally held in big cities like Oslo, Copenhagen, Athens, Istanbul, Berlin or Miami. The Mayor of Sitges, Miquel Forns, explained that although Sitges is a smaller destination, public-private collaboration has been one of the deciding factors for the M&I to be able to be held here, and this way Sitges has proven itself to be a global and united destination".
Sitges’ candidacy was promoted a year ago thanks to the initiative of Meliá Sitges along with the collaboration of the Agència de Promoció Turisme de Sitges (Sitges Tourism Promotion Agency), through its program Sitges Convention Bureau (Sitges CB). This trade action has the support of institutions like the Agència Catalana de Turisme (Catalan Tourism Agency), the Diputació de Barcelona (Barcelona City Council) and about twenty sector companies that are members of the Sitges CB, 14 companies from around the region and local cultural entities. In addition, it has the special collaboration of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia. The Town Councilman for Tourism, Ignasi Garrigó, explains that "the goal is to show the very best of what we have to offer and for this forum to have the maximum level of quality possible in order to capture more relevant multinational business meetings and companies.
The event consists of 4 days of work in which each supplier will have 50 “face to face” meetings, each lasting 20 minutes, with possible clients, networking sessions to create contact networks, plus a program of joint teambuilding activities for the purpose of getting to know the destination in a much more informal way. The main venue where works sessions will be performed is the Hotel Meliá Sitges, and the attendees will be staying primarily at the Hotel Meliá Sitges itself, Dolce Sitges, Av. Sofía and Calipolis hotels. Unique venues like the Finca Mas Solers Estate, The Masía Vilanoveta Farmhouse and Codorniu, as well as several activities and complementary service companies will be collaborating in the event’s social program.
The collaboration between M&I Forum and Sitges has made it possible in 2014 for the Sitges Convention Bureau to participate in other M&I to promote our destination’s business tourism services to meeting organizers from the main European markets, Russia, the Eastern Bloc, North America, Canada, Mexico, Brazil and Argentina.
