Sitges promotes loyalty in the British market at the WTM

London is, until this Thursday, the capital of the professional tourism sector.

 

The World Travel Market (WTM) is the most important fair in the world for tourism professionals. The event, celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, brings together almost 5,000 exhibitors and expects to have more than 50,000 participants from 190 countries.

The Agència de Promoció Turisme de Sitges (Sitges Tourism Promotion Agency) is in London at the WTM until this Thursday with the goal of strengthening and promoting Sitges’ brand in the British market, the number one outbound foreign tourism market in Sitges. In Catalonia, British tourism noted a 4.9% increase in 2013.

According to the Catalan Tourism Agency, 86% of trips by British tourists in Catalonia are for leisure and vacation, and they spend an average of 119 € a day per tourist. Among the most sought after products are sun and sand, City Breaks, family-oriented tourism and business tourism.

During these days, the Agencia de Promoción Turismo de Sitges holds meetings with representatives from public and private institutions to look for new promotion synergies, exchange experiences and outline new projects. The Town Councilor for Tourism, Ignasi Garrigó, explained that "these meetings allow us to discuss the latest tendencies in the tourist industry and establish future trade activities to maintain and increase Sitges’ brand with the main tour operators and in the British press". We are also working on 2.0 activities to target new visitors, both long-stay tourists and day-trippers.

 

Sitges is sparking more and more interest in the British market as a City Break destination, tourists who come to town to spend short periods during the off-season. The connections from the Barcelona El Prat Airports with the main cities in Spain and the rest of Europe encourage visitors to decide to travel on weekends to enjoy the Mediterranean Sea, a few days of R&R and top quality services. Costa Barcelona is also presenting its gastronomic options at the WTM to Catalan companies and operators from the English market. The Costa Barcelona brand is also being presented exclusively to about thirty British media outlets.


Sitges is being promoted at the WTM at the Agència Catalana de Turisme (CatalanTourism Agency) stand under the umbrella of the Barcelona City Council along with Costa Barcelona and the slogan "Barcelona is much more".

This year’s WTM welcomes 200 new exhibitors including tourism promotion entities, luxury operators and technological companies distributed mainly around two of the exhibition ground’s main areas related to luxury tourism and IT: "A Taste of ILTM" and "The Travel Tech Show ".
