Can Llopis Romanticism Museum
A home with a Neoclassical façade built in 1793 and belonging to the Llopis family, landowners, traders, historians and jurists, bequeathed to the Catalonian Generalitat (1935 ) following the death of its last heir, the diplomat Manuel Llopis de Casades. It is a 19th c. mansion decorated in a Romantic style according to the archetype of a well-to-do family of this era. Special attention should be paid to the first floor, where you can follow the decorative evolution of Romanticism and the collection of tempera mural paintings with biblical scenes, the work of painter Pablo Rigalt (1778-1845). The Can Llopis cellar, which was once an important production center for Sitges Malvasía wine, a tradition that still goes on today at the Sant Joan Hospital thanks to Manuel Llopis de Casades’ legacy, and the Romantic garden, the venue for many diverse cultural activities in summer, are two other characteristic spaces. The second floor of the house was fitted out (1961) to hold the Doll Collection belonging to the artist Lola Anglada, one of the most important in Europe.
