The 42nd Sitges Half Marathon and 14th Quarter Marathon 2926 beat registration records with more than 4,000 athletes
Sitges is hosting the 42nd edition of the Half Marathon and the 14th edition of the Quarter Marathon this Saturday and Sunday with more than 4,000 participants who will race through the streets of the town, including children's and adapted races on Saturday. The organisers have kept the route through the city to maintain the essence of the race and connect it even more closely with the town. The Quarter Marathon kicks off at 9 am on Sunday and the Half Marathon at 10 am. The children's and adapted races will be held on the Passeig Saturday afternoon. Registrations for the 2026 edition, which now total over 4,000 athletes (including the Saturday children's races), are up 10% over last year and are beating registration records for the Sitges Half Marathon.
The awards will be given in eight different categories: the top three ranked in the general male and female categories, the top three local male and female athletes, and the winners in wheelchairs (males and females) and visual disability.
To guarantee that the race is safe and goes smoothly, many streets in the centre of Sitges will be closed to traffic, and parking will not be allowed from early morning until the end of the day.
Signs are already posted to show the restrictions.
The mayor of Sitges, Aurora Carbonell Abella, stressed that ‘the Sitges Half Marathon is much more than a race: it's an event that confirms Sitges as a benchmark sports town capable of attracting thousands of athletes and their companions at a key time of the year’.
The mayor also underscored the economic and social impact of the race, claiming that ‘this record of more than 4,000 registered participants proves the success of a model that combines sport and high-quality organisation to generate activity, jobs and a bright outlook for the town as a whole’. Finally, the mayor wanted to spotlight the educational side of the Half Marathon and its future by stating that ‘the children's races on Saturday are a clear way to foster the values of sport since childhood, because today not only are we seeing boys and girls racing; we’re also seeing future runners who will continue to participate in this great event’. The Councillor for Sport, Daniel Martínez Berdala, added that ‘we encourage people the participate and come to Sitges, because we're an athletic town with a zeal for living and sport’. The president of the Catalan Athletics Federation, Mercè Rosich Vilaró, announced that ‘the Sitges Half Marathon opens the Catalan Road Race League, where athletes will join the half-marathon ranking’, and she encouraged the athletes to join the federation to benefit from the advantages and services it provides its members.
This year, the race will earmark its proceeds to the Adapted Sailing School of Sitges.
