Guided tour of the exhibition: “Absències i Presències. Els artistes de Charles Deering a la col·lecció d’art Banc Sabadell”
Industrialist and collector Charles Deering built Maricel de Terra (now the Palau de Maricel) to display his valuable collection of Hispanic art, featuring outstanding works of medieval Catalan art and masterpieces by artists such as El Greco, Zurbarán, and Goya. In Sitges, he also assembled an important collection of contemporary art, now dispersed around the world.
The exhibition aims to reconstruct the absences of Catalan and Spanish artists from the early 20th century, based on the presence of artists represented in the Banco Sabadell Art Collection. Ramon Casas, Santiago Rusiñol, Hermenegild Anglada-Camarasa, Joaquim Sunyer, Darío de Regoyos, Ignacio Zuloaga, Joaquim Mir and Josep Maria Sert, among others, will once again occupy the walls of Maricel de Mar (today the Museu de Maricel), engaging in dialogue with historical images that allow us to rediscover the splendour of the building and reveal the strand of Catalan art that captivated the American collector.
