Every 11 September, Catalonia celebrates its National Day, a day of great cultural and civic significance that invites people to remember the country’s history, celebrate its identity, and share the traditions and expressions of Catalan culture.

The day celebrates Catalan identity, culture and institutions and commemorates the defence of Barcelona in 1714, during the War of the Spanish Succession. The National Day programme highlights Sitges’ commitment to preserving and promoting Catalan culture and traditions, with events open to the whole community.

Raising of the Senyera

Carried out by an officer of the Local Police and an officer of the Mossos d’Esquadra, accompanied by a performance of the Cant de la Senyera by the Escola de Grallers de Sitges.

Castells and “Els Segadors”

Performed by the Colla Jove de Castellers de Sitges, accompanied by the Escola de Grallers de Sitges, which will perform “Els Segadors”.
